Untold Truths about Finding Yourself

Like many misconceptions we cling to, the idea that life will sort itself out once you have found yourself is one of them. That will probably never happen, and there’s a reason why. You are not a fixed entity, you are a being that is constantly evolving. Finding yourself is a moving target and always will be. You are an unfinished being that is constantly evolving and transforming into a new self every day.

The journey of self-discovery is a lifelong process. Your likes, dislikes, desires, priorities, habits, fears, doubts and motivations change over time. You are not the same person you were five years ago or even a year ago. And I bet you won’t be the same person this time next year.

So if you’re waiting to start something, succeed, achieve goals or improve yourself, your life, wellbeing, you’re in for a rude shock: you’ll never reach your goal because it’s not an end point, it's an ongoing journey.

Self-knowledge can help you to understand your "present self”.

While you can’t completely decode yourself or define who you are once and for all, you can develop a good understanding of who you are at this moment. Nothing more. Anything beyond that is just an assumption, an extrapolation or a guess.

If you remain mindful, observe yourself closely and stay anchored in the now, you can get in touch with your true self.

With self-knowledge, you begin to understand why you do what you do, what your values and passions are and what drives you. You will also gain clarity about what brings you joy or causes you pain, what fulfils you and satisfies your soul.

Stop waiting, start building

You didn’t come to this world for no reason. You have a higher purpose - to live a meaningful life, to contribute to the world's reservoir of value, and to contribute through your actions and labour to a cause greater than yourself.

So don’t waste your time and energy on "finding yourself" If you are determined to do something, passionate about a goal or determined to turn your life around, set a path and get going.

Along the way, you’ll discover more about yourself as your journey unfolds.

Taking action brings clarity. You begin to understand which path is right for you, what works and what doesn’t. You also discover your strengths, your limitations and the areas where you can improve.

Only when you do something or work towards a goal do you realise your true potential. It is only when you are confronted with difficulties and challenges that you discover what you are capable of and how far you can go.

You don’t have to "find" or label yourself. You are already your authentic self at every moment. Shift your focus to action and build yourself through doing. Your life journey is your legacy. Your pursuit becomes an inspiration for others. The narrative is being written every day.

Trust your potential, have faith in yourself, embrace all that you are, and get busy becoming what you want to be.
